Week 7 Post: Interesting Royal Wedding Music Analysis

This is an interesting analysis of the music choices for the royal wedding... This is about the only thing that has interested me concerning the whole event!

I was happy to see Widor's Toccata being used as the processional... that's the same one I used in my wedding! Good choice William and Kate!

Gustavo Dudamel Conducts Bruckner/Webern/LA Phil

I happened to come across this review. I actually went to this concert, and it was pretty spectacular. As a low brass player, I was especially excited about the Bruckner piece which used 4 trombones, 4 trumpets, 5 French horns, a tuba, and 4 Wagnerian tubas! The sound was spectacular, unlike anything I had ever heard before. If you ever get chance to see Dudamel conduct, he is really quite special! The Webern piece was pretty interesting as usual, it's really different hearing it live, this was my first time. And the Takemitsu Requiem for Strings was really powerful, utilizing a huge string orchestra. Takemitsu blended some of the more modern harmonic techniques of the early 20th century with a more traditional tonal structure to make some really moving music.These are three pieces I wouldn't mind diving into a little deeper in my music appreciation classes. Thinking back to the Takemitsu piece and what has happened in Japan over the last two days really gives it extra special meaning.
